The Names Have Been Changed To Protect The Innocent ….
When I´m sat down thinking about where “House” music started for me, it boils down to the late 80s and 90s. Going back to the popular trax of the day is always a nice thing to do and usually puts a grin on my chops 🙂 The pure energy of the stuff – gritty, urban, in ur face, groovy. And not a sign of the genre police telling a producer he couldn´t throw a hip-hop beat at a house track or mash up any old bits and bobs he liked, to create a new meaning of what “house” music might be. HAPPY DAYS! Thats the way I like to think about putting tracks together.
Coming back to these roots makes me realize that I could krank up the creativity quite a bit to even get near to that crazy vibe.
Whatever, I wanted to embed some vids in this BLOG post but something blocks them in a browser- So I´ll have to post links back out to Utube instead. So sit back, relax and ENJOY:
Jungle Brothers “I´ll House You”
What a BANGER! and it still pulls serious weight pon di floor today, thanks to the genius that is Mr. Todd Terry and those Bros of the Jungle. Theres a lovely vid interview about this here
The Vid on Utube is HERE
SNAP ” I´ve Got The Power”
Obviously a huge hit, but still certified dance floor feeling. I think they nicked just about everything for this track resulting in plenty of legal in fights. Whatever you think about sampling other peoples stuff, this track remains an original creation IMO.
The Vid on Utube is HERE
Well nuff said, there´s not much you can add to that is there ?
Inner City “Good Life”
Less dark, but a bangin Urban Anthem – classic. You can see the Vid HERE
Bomb The Bass “Beat Dis”
Indeed the innocents probably were not protected. Instead they went off to parties in the middle of a field and got wasted….. But it certainly was “a journey into stereophonic sound for dance music”
You can catch up with this incredible mash-up number again HERE.
Well I hope you guys enjoyed that trip down a turbo charged acid washed memory lane – And we could go on for a good deal longer with Coldcut, KLF, Adamski etc. But for now “KEEP THIS FREQUENCY CLEAR!”
