Belle singing House Music

Eat –  Rave – Rinse – Repeat – The explosion of Electronic Dance Music over the decades is breathtaking.

What probably started simultaneously in the electronic music workshops of pioneers like Stockhausen, the dark and smokey dens of Reggae Dub Producers like Lee Perry or later with more up-tempo robotics in the studio of Kraftwek has now conquered the world, spawning a whole universe of genres and Urban Tribes with thier own lifestyle, look and culture.

Living in the UK in the late 70s and early 80s, I was into Punk and Dub Reggae as a teenager (as well as free jazz, ska, and a whole lot more..) Suddenly something new hit the scene, strange mash-up productions like Coldcut´s “Doctorin’ the House” where suddenly on MTV with psychedelic Videos to match the music. I was hooked – though I didnt have a clue how anyone could actually make music like this.

At the time I was still learning guitar ( I still am crap!) , while playing in some “Bands” with mates of mine. My guitar teacher had a studio with keyboards, midi and a FOUR TRACK Tascam cassette recorder.

It was while we were doing some cover versions in this studio that I started twiddling with the delay time control on a foot pedal. The resulting sound was just like it came off a Mad Professor track – now the “Production” bug had bitten and I had some idea how to make strange mash-up music with tape and effects.

I didn´t have my own studio and I had begun studying art at college and later architecture and slowly but surely I had less and less time to think about making music.

It was decades later that I realized that my Mac had “Garage Band” on it as standard and I began playing with it. “Garage Band” lit the flames that had been smouldering for so long and started me on around another decade of learning, experimenting and trying to find the kind of music I felt happy about producing.

Belle and the Boom Box House Music

I hooked up with the Berlin Model Yolanda Latina (Belle) as our Front Lady cos, lets face it, she´s a whole lot nicer to look at than DJ Boom Box!

All this turned into the Project that is “Belle and the Boom Box” – House Music with plenty nuff BOOM BOOM BOOM :).

That was my route into realizing my dream of producing Dance Music. I love the process of putting  tracks together. I never really know what´s gonna come out at the end and the whole thing is a roller coaster of emotions, but Doing this is really special and keeps me rolling on. I hope you enjoy the traxX !
